When it is already announced by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) announced that BCG vaccine being used for immune-boosting, Council Of Science and Industrial Research (CSIR) coins clinical trials on Mw (Mycobacterium w)—the anti-leprosy vaccine if it can be used as a Coronavirus vaccine. Mw and BCG belongs to the same family and maybe in a month of a clinical trial, they would be able to arrive at a position to lock the COVID-19 vaccine, says Dr Shekhar C Mande, Director General, CSIR.
CSIR joins hands with Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a Gujarat-based pharma company to work on the Mw vaccine for COVID-19. AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Bhopal, and PGI Chandigarh will also be involved in the clinical trial.
