India reported 39,796 new Covid-19 cases on Monday with 723 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the lowest daily death toll in three months, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.
The country’s cumulative caseload declined to 4,82,071, of which total recoveries were at 2,97,00,430 across the country. Active cases constitute 1.59 per cent of the total caseload.
Among all the states, Kerala reported the highest Covid-19 cases at 12,100, followed by Maharashtra with 9,336 cases, Tamil Nadu with 3,867 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 3,175 cases and Odisha with 2,870 cases.
These five states accounted for 78.78 per cent of the daily new cases reported on Sunday, with Kerala alone responsible for 30.41 per cent of the fresh infections.
The number of reported daily deaths in the country was the lowest since March, with 723 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. This takes the total tally of Covid-related deaths to 4,02,728.
Maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (306), followed by Kerala with 76 deaths in the last 24 hours.
