Production of 850 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine for COVID-19 in India will start in August. “65 – 70% of total Sputnik V vaccine would be made in India,” said Venkatesh Varma, Indian representative. 

“Russia has already supplied 1.5 lakh plus 60,000 doses to India. Another 30 lakh doses will be supplied by end of May. Those will be filled in India. It means the vials will be filled with vaccines here. In June the supply is expected to increase 50 lakhs,” said Venkatesh Varma. 

Sputnik V will be produced in India in three phases, first, as fully exported to India which has started. Second, the vials will be filled in India and third, the production of vaccines by Indian manufacturers. 

The production of vaccines will boost India’s vaccination campaign as India is facing shortage of vaccines.
