The Central Government and ICMR have scaled up the testing infrastructure in a calibrated manner. India's testing capacity has touched 15 lakh per day ensuring easily accessible COVID-19 tests for all.

The Health Ministry said that very high levels of testing have led to early identification, prompt isolation, and effective treatment of COVID-19 cases. It said, higher volumes of testing have also ensured a lower daily positivity rate which has recorded a steep decline to stand at even below 2.30 percent.

Starting from just one testing lab at the National Institute of Virology, Pune, in January this year, the country today has two thousand 328 labs for testing COVID samples which includes one thousand 203 government and 1,125 private labs.
