In a major step to reduce heart attack-related deaths, Jupiter Hospital has launched the Code Brown - STEMI Protocol, a dedicated rapid-response program for ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), one of the most severe and time-critical types of heart attacks. The initiative focuses on early diagnosis, seamless coordination across hospital departments, and immediate treatment to save lives and preserve heart function.
The program operates as a coordinated, hospital-wide initiative designed to streamline emergency care for heart attack patients. The moment a patient with chest pain and ST-elevation changes on an ECG (Acute heart attack) arrives at the Emergency department of Jupiter Hospital, the Code Brown team is immediately activated.
It brings together emergency physicians, cardiologists, nurses, cath lab staff, and supporting departments such as billing, housekeeping, patient movement, and ICU. All teams work in unison to create a ‘green corridor,’ ensuring the patient reaches the cath lab quickly and safely, with every step optimized to reduce delay and save precious time.
Time is critical during a STEMI (Acute heart attack). The faster the blocked artery is opened through emergency angioplasty, the more heart muscle is preserved, improving survival and reducing long-term complications. Code Brown is specifically designed to minimize delays and provide the best possible care in the shortest time.
Dr. Ravi Pratap, Head - Emergency Department at Jupiter Hospital, Pune said, "Every minute counts when dealing with a heart attack. Code Brown brings all departments together in perfect coordination to ensure STEMI patients receive emergency angioplasty without delay. Our mission is to save lives, protect heart function, and give every patient the best chance at a full recovery."
Patients experiencing sudden chest pain, sweating, breathlessness, or pain spreading to the arm or jaw should never ignore these warning signs and must contact their doctor immediately. Through rapid intervention and seamless hospital-wide coordination, the Code Brown - STEMI Protocol demonstrates how advanced emergency systems can reduce cardiac mortality and improve patient outcomes.
