A new 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, installed under the Kotak Bank’s CSR initiative, will expand access to high-quality imaging particularly for patients with limited means.

Mumbai, 23rd April, 2026: For many patients at K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre a timely and accurate diagnosis can determine the course of treatment and in some cases, the outcome of care. With that reality in mind, the hospital has strengthened its diagnostic infrastructure with the support of Kotak Mahindra Bank’s CSR initiative, adding a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit, ventilators for the pediatric NICU.

The MRI unit was inaugurated by Shri Dipak Gupta, Former MD & CEO, Kotak Mahindra Bank alongside Shri Samir Somaiya, Chairman of K J Somaiya Medical Trust, and other dignitaries

The shift from an outsourced MRI model to a hospital‑operated facility is more than an infrastructure upgrade. It means shorter waiting times, reduced costs for patients and greater reliability in care- benefits that matter most to those who can least afford delays and disruptions. The unit will also support the hospital academic and research work by integrating directly into clinical workflows.

Himanshu Nivsarkar, Head of CSR & ESG, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said, “Advanced diagnostics should not be a privilege. By supporting K J Somaiya Hospital’s move to an in-house MRI facility, we hope to make high-quality imaging more accessible and reliable, particularly for patients who would otherwise have limited recourse.”

Reflecting on the hospital’s values Chairman Shri Samir Somaiya said, “Healthcare systems today are increasingly dependent on the ability to access accurate and timely diagnostic information. Strengthening this capability allows institutions to respond with greater consistency across patient care. At K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre, our focus has always been on creating access to high-quality, world-class healthcare for all sections of society. Supported by the Kotak Mahindra Bank, this initiative enhances our ability to deliver care that is both responsive and aligned with our founding principle of giving back to society in a meaningful way, while continuing to expand the reach of advanced diagnostics to communities that need it most.”

Dr. Manisha Bobade, CEO, K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre, “Diagnostic systems influence every stage of the clinical pathway. The integration of this MRI system allows us to work with greater precision across departments, improving both the speed and quality of clinical decisions. It also enables a more coordinated approach to patient care, where outcomes are shaped by the strength of the diagnostic foundation.”

K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre has long been committed to making world-class healthcare available to all sections of society. This partnership with Kotak Mahindra Bank is a step further in that direction – grounded not in gesture, but in the practical reality of what better diagnostics make possible for patients every day.
