Gurugram, May 22, 2025 – In response to the increasing number of road accidents in Delhi NCR, Medanta – The Medicity, India’s leading multi-specialty hospital and ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, conducted an advanced Emergency Response and First Aid training workshop for the Traffic Police in Gurugram. The session was attended by over 75 personnel, including senior officials such as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Rajesh Mohan.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta, who welcomed the participating police personnel and encouraged them to learn these critical life-saving skills. Led by Dr. Yatin Mehta, Chairman, Critical Care, Medanta, Gurugram, the intensive hands-on training was designed to equip police officers stationed with PCR vans — who are often the first responders at accident sites — with critical first aid skills necessary to stabilize victims until medical help arrives.
The initiative was spearheaded by DCP Dr Rajesh Mohan, who completed his MBBS before joining the Indian Police Service (IPS). His dual expertise played a pivotal role in conceptualizing this life-saving training. After the successful conclusion of the training session on Thursday, Medanta now plans to carry out this workshop for traffic police personnel across the whole of Haryana state.
India witnesses nearly 5 lakh road accidents annually, resulting in over 1.88 lakh deaths, mostly among those aged 18–45 years, including 10,000 children under 18. These accidents not only strain the public healthcare system but also lead to a 3% loss in the country’s GDP each year.[1] In light of these alarming figures, strengthening first response capabilities is critical to reducing fatalities and improving outcomes. The workshop included practical demonstrations and scenario-based learning modules focusing on trauma care, bleeding control, airway management, CPR, and other essential emergency response protocols. Officers were trained to remain calm, assess injuries swiftly, and deliver prompt care in the vital first few minutes following an accident.
The trained officers are now better equipped to offer immediate assistance during emergencies, ultimately strengthening the emergency response framework in Gurugram. Medanta remains committed to supporting community initiatives that enhance public safety and health outcomes.
