Medanta Enhances its Cancer Care Program with the Latest Varian EDGE Radiation Machine

First hospital in India to launch radiation machine equipped with IDENTIFY HyperArc, and RapidArc Dynamic technology, along with cones for functional SRS.

National, December 19, 2025 – Medanta – The Medicity, ranked the Best Private Hospital in India by Newsweek for six consecutive years, has launched the country’s most advanced Varian EDGE radiation therapy system, which for the first time comes integrated with IDENTIFY® surface-guided technology, HyperArc™, RapidArc® Dynamic therapy, and functional SRS cones. With this development, Medanta has greatly enhanced its cancer care program and its leadership in oncology.

This next-generation radiation platform significantly reduces treatment time to nearly one minute per session for most cancers, while delivering sub-millimetric precision, enabling superior tumor targeting with minimal exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. This results in faster, safer, and more comfortable radiation therapy, even for complex and high-risk tumors.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman & Managing Director, Medanta emphasized technology’s pivotal role in the hospital’s enduring commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centric care. He said, “Technology is driving a revolution in healthcare and its participation in the enhancement of medicine is a huge importance to humanity. We have opted for the latest equipment as we are steadfast in our commitment to deliver the best in healthcare, reflected in the Medanta ethos – ‘Har Ek Jaan Anmol’ (Every Life Is Invaluable).”

Dr. Tejinder Kataria, Chairperson, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Care at Medanta –The Medicity said, “Designed to treat a broad spectrum of cancers -- including multiple brain metastases, head and neck cancers, breast cancer, and lung cancer -- this equipment enhances both clinical accuracy and patient experience, reinforcing Medanta’s commitment to world-class, patient-first oncology care.”

The new machine integrates real-time surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) through IDENTIFY®, allowing continuous monitoring of patient positioning during treatment. This ensures immediate correction or the automatic cessation of radiation if the patient moves out of position. This enhances safety across all age groups, including pediatric patients. Importantly, patients of most cancers no longer require a thermoplastic cast, which is typically used to securely hold the patient in place during radiation treatment.

Advanced capabilities enable clinicians to customize radiation dose distribution with exceptional precision, including HyperArc™ -- an isocentric technique for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) that delivers a high dose of radiation to tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue -- and RapidArc® Dynamic therapy, which allows clinicians to customize the radiation’s distribution to optimal degrees. The inclusion of functional stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) cones also allows the treatment of select benign brain conditions with high accuracy.

Dr. Kataria also added, “We have come a long way from a nihilistic approach to treating cancer and towards radiation delivery over the past four decades. In the new machine, computer algorithms and the rapid dynamic movement of the multileaf collimator, along with the assembly around the patient, delivers the sub-millimeter precision in the delivery of the treatment.”
