6th November 2025: Medanta – The Medicity, one of India’s leading super-speciality hospitals, ranked the Best Private Hospital in India by Newsweek for six consecutive years, has announced the launch of its Advanced Surgical Heart Failure Clinic, a specialized centre dedicated to the diagnosis, surgical management, and holistic rehabilitation of patients with complex and end-stage heart failure.

The Advanced Surgical Heart Failure Clinic marks a major milestone in India’s cardiac care landscape, bringing together a multidisciplinary team of cardiac surgeons, heart failure specialists, interventional cardiologists, and cardiac rehabilitation experts under one roof to deliver integrated, evidence-based, and precision-driven care. The clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostics and facilities such as CPET, right heart catheterisation, genetic and biopsy testing, along with comprehensive pre- and post-transplant rehabilitation. It offers therapies beyond conventional medication, including surgical solutions, mechanical circulatory support devices, and transplant readiness programs.

With a strong focus on early detection and timely intervention, the clinic ensures optimal outcomes through LVAD or transplant planning and bridge-to-transplant or destination therapy approaches. In addition, it provides comprehensive patient and family support through counselling, lifestyle education, cost planning, and long-term care guidance.

"Advanced stage heart failure disease continues to be a health crisis in India, with a one-year mortality rate reaching up to 23.7% for some major causes. Analysis of 10,845 heart failure patients showed that diseases leading to end-stage heart disease, such as ischemic heart disease, contribute to a 21.1% one-year mortality, while dilated cardiomyopathy contributes to a 23.7% one-year mortality, and rheumatic heart disease is the third leading cause. In light of these significant mortality figures and the diverse origins of heart failure, advanced surgical heart failure therapies provide crucial life-saving options for patients with severe cardiac dysfunction, significantly improving survival rates and restoring quality of life through precision-driven care. Our clinic will specifically address these critical needs by focusing on Mechanical Circulatory Support (LVAD, RVAD, BiVAD, ECMO), Heart and Lung Transplantation, and High-Risk and Re-do Cardiac Surgeries, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients facing these challenging conditions", said Dr. Anil Bhan, Chairman, Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplant, Cardiac Care, Medanta, Gurugram.

Speaking on the launch, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman & Managing Director, Medanta, said, “Heart failure represents one of the most pressing challenges in modern medicine. For patients with end-stage or complex heart failure, conventional medical management alone is often not enough. Our Advanced Surgical Heart Failure Clinic is designed to bridge this gap, offering advanced surgical solutions and a chance for a better quality of life."

When to refer a patient: If your patient meets any of the following “I NEED HELP” criteria, it’s time to refer them for advanced evaluation and management. These include the need for IV inotropes, NYHA class IIIB/IV symptoms or persistently elevated natriuretic peptides, presence of end-organ dysfunction, ejection fraction below 35%, defibrillator shocks, more than one hospitalization due to heart failure, edema despite escalating diuretics, low blood pressure or high heart rate, and progressive intolerance or down-titration of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).

The launch of this clinic underscores Medanta’s unwavering commitment to advancing clinical excellence and innovation in cardiovascular care. It further reinforces the hospital’s position as a leader in cardiac sciences, delivering world-class treatment that seamlessly integrates technology, expertise, and compassion.
