Madurai, October 7, 2025: Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center in association with The Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India and Indian Medical Association Madurai Meenakshi Chapter orgnaised a two-day nephrology conference PDSICON 2025 focused on how Peritoneal Dialysis is one of the choices available in the basket of renal replacement therapy. Over 300 nephrologists, post graduate students and healthcare professionals from across India participated in the PDSICON 2025 conference.

The conference was inaugurated by the chief guest Prof. Ramesh Khanna, a world renowned expert on Home Dialysis from University of Missouri School of Medicine, USA, in the presence of Dr. Dr Sampathkumar, Chief Nephrologist, Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Organising Chairman and President of PDSI.

The topics covered in the conference included: managing peritoneal dialysis programs, special focus to paediatric and neonatal patients, the versatility of this home-based treatment, techniques for initiating peritoneal dialysis, complications, and customizing patient care.

In his comments, Dr Sampathkumar, Chief Nephrologist, Meenakshi Mission Hospital said, “There is a worldwide recognition of advantages of home-based Peritoneal dialysis treatment for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. The PM National Health Mission and Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam in TN have successfully incorporated peritoneal dialysis for delivering health care at the doorstep of patients.”

“Home-based therapy of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) offers several advantages including preservation of patient autonomy, less prospects of travel to hospital and improved quality of life with social and professional rehabilitation. The procedure is simple and can be quickly learnt by the patient so that he or she can perform the dialysis herself. PD can be undertaken at home with minimal supervision and lesser disruption to normal lifestyle. Even patients, who stay far away from centres that offer HD or in cities or towns with no facilities of HD or in remote places, can safely undertake PD” added Dr Sampathkumar.
