Mumbai, 21st February 2026: Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, through its Institute of Cancer Care, recently organised an inspiring evening, ‘Cancer is Just a Comma, Not a Fullstop,’. The programme brought together over 100 cancer survivors, caregivers and clinicians highlighting importance of cancer prevention, regular screening and early detection. The event was graced by Mr. Rajkumar Hirani, acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker, who interacted with the cancer survivors and shared words of motivation.

The highlight of the evening was Survivors Diaries, in which cancer warriors shared their personal journeys of treatment and recovery. A special musical programme, led by musician Mr Jagdish Lalwani added warmth and energy to the gathering.

Mr Hirani also had an engaging conversation with the audiences, sharing a glimpse into his illustrious journey in cinema, with light, entertaining moments that kept the evening spirited and memorable.

Speaking about the event, Dr. Ganesh Nagarajan, Vice Chairman - HPB & GI Surgery and Lead - Growth & Strategy, Oncology, Nanavati Max Hospital said, “Every survivor story is a reminder that cancer can be fought and defeated. When survivors speak, they don’t just inspire; they educate communities about the value of prevention, early checks and seeking care at the right time. Our heartfelt gratitude towards Mr Hirani for helping us amplify this message of hope amongst those battling cancer.”

Dr Hemant Tongaonkar, HoD and Principal Director - Urologic & Gynecologic Oncosurgery, said such gatherings are necessary to lift the taboo around the disease. “This gathering proves that Cancer is just another disease that can be managed well if detected early and treated in early stages. Our Cancer Warriors, who share their recovery journeys today will help the world believe that treatment is possible and life can move forward.”

Mr. Sunil Rodrigues, a 54-year-old cancer survivor and financial analyst from Mumbai, who successfully completed his treatment at Nanavati Max Hospital two years back, said the key to defeat cancer is the unshakable belief in your doctor. “Over the course of my treatment, I always followed every single advice of the doctors. Beating cancer is possible if you have a team of experienced doctors to back you, all you need to do is to trust them completely,” said Rodrigues.
