New Delhi | January 29, 2026: Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages India, organised a one-day free eye check-up camp for 137 children and caregivers from the NGO’s Family Like Care and Family Strengthening Programmes.

Today, conditions like myopia (near-sightedness) and hypermetropia (far–sightedness) are becoming more common in children. This makes it important to detect eye-related issues at an early stage. Families should take necessary steps to check whether their child has myopia, hypermetropia, or any other eye concerns. However, children from vulnerable communities often have limited access to basic healthcare services, including regular eye check-ups. This can affect their concentration, academic performance, and overall learning ability. Initiatives like these play an important role in spreading awareness and enabling preventive eye care.

The camp aimed to facilitate early diagnosis and preventive screening for common eye conditions such as weak eyesight, colour blindness, and lazy eye. A team of qualified doctors and medical staff from Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital conducted comprehensive screenings and provided consultations and preventive guidance to both children and caregivers to help safeguard their eye health. In cases requiring further treatment, the team also advised follow-up diagnosis and care.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Karthikeya, Senior Consultant – Vitreoretina, Uvea & ROP, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, said “Many eye problems in children go unnoticed when regular screening is not done. Identifying these issues early helps prevent them from affecting a child’s studies and daily activities. Through outreach camps like these, we can provide quality eye care to children who may not otherwise get timely medical help.”

Sumanta Kar, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages India, said, “Nowadays, children are more vulnerable to eye-related issues, and at their age, they struggle   to understand or explain the challenge that they are facing. We ensure the overall well-being of children and mothers under our umbrella of care, which is our central idea. Our engagement with Dr Agrawals Eye Hospital, has enabled us to provide timely eye screening and preventive care, helping our programme participants address vision concerns”.

This collaboration reflects Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital’s continued commitment to advancing eye healthcare accessibility for children, especially from underserved communities, while aligning with SOS Children’s Villages India’s mission of holistic child development. The initiative marks a step towards supporting the overall growth and well-being of vulnerable children by providing essential medical services.
