Chennai, April 19, 2026: Rela Hospital has launched a dedicated Cancer Survivorship program, Kadhir, marking four years of cancer care, to support patients beyond active treatment. The initiative is designed to address the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients who have completed or are undergoing cancer treatment, offering structured follow-up, rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and supportive care as part of a comprehensive survivorship model.

Kadhir enables continued clinical monitoring, supports early detection of recurrence, and addresses late side effects of cancer therapies, while integrating rehabilitation and psychosocial care to ensure comprehensive post-treatment support, including guidance on emotional well-being, relationships, fertility, return to work, and healthy lifestyle practices.

The survivorship program is delivered through a multidisciplinary team comprising oncologists, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists, and counsellors, working in coordination to ensure continuity and consistency in follow-up care.

The program was launched by Prof. Mohamed Rela, Chairman and Managing Director of Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, in the presence of a large number of cancer survivors who were treated at Rela Hospital, along with their families.

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Mohamed Rela said, “Advances in cancer treatment have significantly improved survival, bringing greater focus on the long-term needs of patients after treatment is completed. Survivors often require ongoing monitoring for recurrence, management of persistent side effects, and support in addressing the broader impact on their health and well-being.

The growing number of cancer survivors we see today also reinforces the need for structured survivorship care that extends beyond treatment. A coordinated program like Kadhir enables continuity across specialties while supporting patients as they transition back to their daily lives, with access to rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and psychological support where needed.”

The launch of the programme marks a step towards strengthening structured survivorship care within the hospital’s oncology services, in line with evolving global practices. The Cancer Centre at Rela Hospital offers comprehensive cancer care under one roof, with expertise across surgical, medical and radiation oncology, organ transplantation, supported by advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services.
