Hyderabad, 26th May 2026: In a remarkable demonstration of advanced paediatric urological care, the expert team at Yashoda Hospitals performed an Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty with DJ stenting, using a robotic procedure, on a 2-month-old male infant with left Pelvi-Ureteric Junction (PUJ) obstruction. The procedure was successfully performed by a minimally invasive robotic approach with no intraoperative complications and an uneventful postoperative course. The case underlines the experience of the hospital in treating complex conditions in very young patients.

The infant was admitted on April 10, 2026, with a recognised diagnosis of PUJ obstruction, a condition that means obstruction of the flow of urine from the kidney to the ureter, which, if left untreated, can lead to kidney damage. Following complete evaluation and pre-operative preparation, the surgical team performed the surgery on 11th April 2026 using minimally invasive robotic surgery.

The procedure was done with the robotic assistance, which allowed precise reconstruction of the renal pelvis and ureter with minimal trauma to the tissues, increased accuracy, and a faster recovery time. A DJ stent was also placed to ensure proper urinary drainage during healing.

The operation was performed under leadership of  Dr. Mallikarjuna Reddy N, Clinical Director and Sr. Consultant - Urology & Robotic Surgery, with a team of expert urologists.  “We are proud to be one of the few centres in India performing advanced paediatric robotic procedures at Yashoda Hospitals. With over 25 years of experience in both laparoscopic and robotic surgery, we continue to push the boundaries of minimally invasive care. This case of congenital PUJ obstruction in a young infant discharged on the second day, reflects the amazing advances that have been taken in the field of paediatric urology. Robotic pyeloplasty in such small infants allows improved precision, better visualisation and gentle tissue handling, all of which are important for successful surgery. Timely intervention not only clears the obstructions but also helps in maintaining the kidney function and healthy future for the child,” said Dr. Mallikarjuna Reddy N.

The infant remained stable throughout the hospital stay and responded well to treatment including antibiotics and supportive care following the procedure. The patient was discharged on April 14, 2026, in stable condition with a follow-up schedule to monitor recovery and removal of the DJ stent.

This case demonstrates Yashoda Hospitals’ commitment towards embracing advanced robotic surgical techniques for the management of complex urological conditions including paediatric patients. Robotic pyeloplasty is becoming popular because of lesser pain, smaller incision, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery and better surgical outcome.
