The beautiful South Cinema actress, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is in news these days due to her health issue - Myositis. She has taken over Instagram and mentioned the autoimmune disorder that she is diagnosed currently with - known as Myositis.

Posing with a heart picture from the hospital, the actress has captioned these words on her Instagram post which says, “It's love and connection that I share with all of you, that gives me strength to deal with seemingly unending challenges that life throws at me. A few months back I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Myositis. I was hoping to share this after it had gone into remission. But it is taking a little longer than I hoped. I am slowly realizing that we don't always need to put up a strong front. Accepting this vulnerability is something which I am struggling with.”

Sharing her detailed update on health, Samantha Ruth Prabhu further wrote, “The doctors are confident that I will make a complete recovery soon. I have good days and bad days as well both physically and emotionally. This shall too PASS.”

What is Myositis?

Myositis is a rare condition that causes muscles to become weak, painful, and tired. As the word suggests, “Myositis” means Myo-muscles and sitis -inflammation. Thus, myositis is inflammation of muscles that causes pain. 

Symptoms and effects of Myositis

The symptoms of myositis are as follows-

  • It affects muscles of the shoulder, hips, and thigh and may extend to muscles of the heart and lungs. 
  • It can hamper basic daily functions of the body such as breathing or swallowing by affecting the muscles that carry out this task. 
  • The weakness and tiredness of muscles may cause loss of balance and frequent falls making the patient more prone to injuries. 
  • Puffiness and dark circles around the eyes are common signs of myositis weakness. 
  • Problems in carrying out daily activities like brushing hair, and climbing stairs due to the weakness of muscles. 

Treatment of myositis 

The treatment of myositis includes the following- 

  • Medical treatment such as painkillers and steroids 
  • Regular exercise 
  • Reduce stress 
  • Physiotherapy 
  • Occupational therapy 
  • Speech therapy
