Chennai, September 8, 2026: Setting a new milestone in hip reconstruction, SIMS Hospital has performed Asia’s first new-generation, bone-sparing hip procedure. The pioneering procedure was performed on two international patients – one aged 44 from Nebraska, USA, and another patient aged 58 from London, United Kingdom. While the conventional hip procedures often require extensive removal of bone, this innovative approach preserves a substantial portion of the patient’s healthy natural bone while achieving a stable, functional reconstruction, offering patients greater options for future hip interventions.

Further, the bone-sparing approach enhances implant stability while facilitating a return to highly functional, near-normal activity after surgery. Considered a more anatomical and biologically respectful approach, the procedure enables stable reconstruction of the hip. This allows patients to resume a broad range of normal daily activities. Such an outcome is particularly important for younger and active patients, for whom preservation of bone and maintenance of function are central considerations.

The procedures were performed following detailed clinical assessments, comprehensive imaging, medical optimisation and meticulous surgical planning. Both patients have demonstrated encouraging early functional recovery following the procedures, with good progress reported during the initial postoperative period.
