SINGER India becomes the first company to manufacture high precision Auto Zig Zag sewing machines in India.

New Delhi, November 18, 2025 - SINGER India Ltd. has announced plans to commence the local manufacturing of Auto Zig Zag sewing machines in India. This initiative follows the signing of a licensing agreement between SINGER India Ltd. and SINGER Sourcing Limited LLC (“SVP Worldwide”), granting SINGER India the rights to manufacture and outsource select categories of Auto Zig Zag sewing machines for the Indian market.

SINGER ®, with a 175-year legacy and a 155-year presence in India, remains one of the most well-known and trusted brands in the country, and continues to reinforce its commitment to India’s manufacturing and innovation journey.

The initiative comes at a time when the Government of India is actively promoting local manufacturing under its “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India” missions—aimed at enhancing domestic capabilities, fostering innovation, generating employment, and developing skilled manpower.

Said Mr. Rakesh Khanna, Vice Chairman and Managing Director for SINGER India Limited, “I take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the Government of India, the Bureau of Indian Standards, and DPIIT for their vision in making India a global manufacturing hub, establishing strong quality standards and providing the support and encouragement that enable Indian organisations like ours to take this significant step forward”.

This licensing arrangement will enable SINGER India to produce high-quality Auto Zig Zag sewing machines designed to suit Indian consumer needs, and in due course, achieve cost competitiveness comparable to global standards. With this, SINGER India will also have the opportunity to export these machines to SVP Worldwide for the international markets. The machines will carry the mandatory BIS certification, underscoring a commitment to superior quality and safety standards envisioned by the government of India.

Under the agreement, SINGER India Limited will:

  1. Manufacture, outsource, and distribute specific categories of SINGER Zig Zag sewing machines under the SINGER and MERRITT™ brands for sale in India.

  2. Receive the right to supply these machines to SVP Worldwide for international distribution in the future, further strengthening India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.

Initially, production will commence at SINGER India’s existing manufacturing facility in Jammu, with plans to establish a new, state-of-the-art plant within the next 6 to 12 months.

In line with the shared growth vision of SINGER India Ltd. and SVP Worldwide for the Indian market, SINGER India has entered into an investment agreement with VSM Group AB, a commonly owned affiliate of SVP Worldwide. Under this agreement, VSM Group AB will subscribe to over 5 lakh equity shares of SINGER India through a preferential allotment. This strategic investment underscores SVP World wide’s long-term commitment to the Indian market and will support the development of new product categories as well as the establishment of the upcoming manufacturing facility.
