Chennai, 21st September 2025: The 17th edition of the Terry Fox Run Chennai 2025, organized by the Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), witnessed an overwhelming response with over 5,000 registrations and thousands of participants coming together to walk and run for a noble cause — raising awareness and funds for cancer research at Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar. This year’s run turned Island Grounds into a sea of hope, with participants ranging from school and college students to corporates, families, and fitness groups. The morning was marked by energy, solidarity, and remembrance, celebrating the legacy of Canadian athlete and cancer activist Terry Fox and Chennai’s own late Akash Dube, who brought the run to the city in 2009. The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, IPS (Retd.), Former DGP of Tamil Nadu, and Guest of Honour Actor Harish Kalyan, who flagged off the run. Several dignitaries, including Rtn. Vinod Saraogi, District Governor, Rotary Dist. 3234, Dr. Swaminathan R, Associate Director – Cancer Institute (WIA), and members of the Dube family, joined hands to support the cause. Runners and walkers participated in the 6 km and 3 km categories, not to compete but to contribute, echoing Terry Fox’s vision: “Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me.” Speaking at the event, Rtn. Balaji Sreenivasan, President of RCME, said: “The Terry Fox Run is not just a run — it is a movement of courage, compassion, and community. We are proud that Chennai showed up in thousands today, making this legacy stronger every year.” Funds raised will directly support the pioneering work at Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, continuing the fight against cancer through research and treatment. With every step taken, Chennai carried forward Terry Fox’s dream — proving that the spirit of resilience and hope can never be outrun.
