University of Leeds Opens Applications for MSc AI Ethics and Society for Indian Students

The program equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the ethical, societal, and governance challenges of artificial intelligence.

March 16th, 2026: The University of Leeds is now inviting applications for its full-time, 12-month MSc in AI Ethics and Society, commencing in September 2026. This forward-looking programme is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders to navigate the complex ethical, societal, and governance challenges posed by artificial intelligence. Students gain strategic insight into how AI shapes public life, from policymaking to trust and accountability, while learning to design responsible systems that serve society.

 

Offered by the Leeds Institute for Societal Futures, the programme delivers a truly interdisciplinary education, integrating expertise from philosophy, social sciences, public policy, and technology. Alongside core modules in AI and ethics, students engage in challenge-based learning to address real-world dilemmas, covering topics such as bias in AI, power and democracy in automated systems, human-AI interaction, and the evolution of knowledge in a digital age. The curriculum is further enriched through contributions from industry experts, policymakers, and NGOs, ensuring teaching is closely aligned with contemporary debates surrounding AI.

 

Entry Requirements: First class or grade equivalent undergraduate degree in a relevant subject from a recognised Indian university.

 

Start Date: September 2026

 

Application Deadline: 31st July 2026

 

Duration: 12 months (full-time)

 

English Language Requirements:  Students will need Standard XII English at 70% or 75% depending on the state board, or IELTS 6.5 overall,  with no less than 6.0 in any component.

 

Tuition: £26,500 (31,18,549.15 INR approx)

 

Scholarship Details:

 

  • £6,000 International Masters Regional Scholarships for all Indian students
  • International Excellence Scholarship for Indian Students - 500 awards with up to a 50% fee reduction available for international students.

 

Industry Exposure under UoL’s Global Industry Programme:  While studying at Leeds, students have a unique opportunity to gain real-world industry consultancy experience through a two-week virtual Global Industry Programme. This not only helps them build valuable industry connections but also develops practical and professional skills that help them stand out in the competitive graduate job market. 

 

Career Opportunities: This course prepares graduates for a fast-growing job market shaped by the widespread use of AI across all sectors. It equips them to take on roles focused on the ethical, responsible and well-governed implementation of AI, supporting careers in consulting, policymaking, technology, government and compliance. Graduates will be ready for emerging roles in AI ethics and regulation, including positions such as AI ethics or responsible innovation advisor, policy analyst, public-sector specialist for ethical AI deployment, communications and engagement roles, tech-sector governance consultant, creative industries ethics advisor, researcher in AI and society, or advisor on AI in areas such as education, health and government.
