Hyderabad, January 22, 2026 : Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, has successfully treated a 2-year-old boy, Mast. Abhinav Reddy, who was suffering from drug-refractory focal epilepsy due to left occipital lobar dysplasia—a rare and severe cause of epileptic encephalopathy in children. The child had been experiencing daily seizure episodes since the age of 18 months, significantly affecting his development and quality of life.

Under the leadership of Dr. Sagari Gullapalli, Senior Consultant Neurologist & Epileptologist, and with support from the multidisciplinary team including Dr. Ravinder Goud Jangampally, Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist, and Dr. Bala Raja Sekhar Chandray, Senior Consultant Neuro & Spine Surgeon, the child underwent a highly complex Left Parieto-Temporal Craniotomy with Posterior Quadrantic Disconnection on February 20, 2025.

The procedure aimed to disconnect the abnormal epileptic zone responsible for daily seizures. Following surgery, the child responded positively, with no postoperative complications, and was discharged in a stable condition on February 24, 2025.

Speaking about the case, Dr. Sagari Gullapalli said, “Drug-resistant epilepsy in very young children can severely impact brain development and daily functioning. In Abhinav’s case, timely diagnosis and advanced neuro-surgical intervention were crucial. Posterior quadrantic disconnection is a highly specialized procedure, and we are pleased that the child is now seizure-free and on the path to improved neurological development. Early intervention truly changes lives.”

Yashoda Hospitals continues to be a leader in advanced neurology and pediatric neurosurgery, offering cutting-edge treatments for complex brain conditions with a strong multidisciplinary approach.
