Meanwhile, The Government today said that the country's COVID-19 recovery rate has reached 84.34 per cent. During the last 24 hours, more than 76 thousand COVID patients have recovered.

The Health Ministry said, the total number of recoveries has reached over 55 lakh 86 thousand. The constantly increasing recoveries have ensured that the actual caseload of the country has considerably reduced and currently comprises only 14.11 per cent of the total positive cases. Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is nine lakh 34 thousand. Currently, India’s Case Fatality Rate is at 1.55 per cent, which is one of the lowest globally.

In the last 24 hours, 74 thousand 442 new cases have been reported taking the total number of positive cases in the country to over 66 lakh 23 thousand. The Ministry said, effective implementation of Centre's strategic and graded Test-Track-Treat approach has led to higher recoveries and lower fatality.  In the last 24 hours, 903 deaths have been reported taking the toll to one lakh two thousand 685.

According to ICMR, India has exceeded the 140 per day per million Covid tests as advised by the World Health Organization by nearly six times. The Health Ministry said, several States and Union Territories have demonstrated better performance than the national average. During the last 24 hours, more than nine lakh 89 thousand tests have been conducted. The total sample tested so far has reached to around eight crore.

In its Guidance Note on Public Health Criteria to Adjust Public Health and Social Measures in the Context of COVID-19, the World Health Organization has advised that a country needs 140 tests per day per million population for comprehensive surveillance of suspected cases.
