In Mizoram, eight new cases of Corona virus infections were detected, while 30 persons were discharged after recovery during the last 24 hours.
With this, the total number of active cases in the state rose to 2,128. The official statement reports that 1,837 patients have so far been recovered. Presently, 291 infected persons are undergoing treatment.
The recovery rate in the state presently stands at 86.65 per cent. So far, there is no report of a single case of death of COVID-19 in the state.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya is finally on the map for plasma therapy to treat COVID-19 patients after the plasma bank of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) became operational and six BSF personnel donated their plasma today.
The COVID-19 convalescent plasma collection was organized by Department of Blood Bank, NEIGRIHMS, in collaboration with the BSF Frontier Headquarters.
Director of NEIGRIHMS, P. Bhattacharya said that plasma therapy is a meeting place of technology and the human spirit. He said that the best of technology does not work without donors, and thousands of donors do not work without technology.
Stating that Plasma therapy is being touted as the final answer to COVID-19, the Director said that the answer lies somewhere in between as strength of anti-bodies is going to fight with the virus and neutralize it.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General, BSF and Medical Superintendent of BSF Composite Hospital, A.C. Bharadwajan said that it is a good start and 10 BSF Jawans will donate plasma in the first phase. He assured that the BSF has over 700 recovered and they stand ready to serve the community.
