Maharashtra reported 2,553 fresh coronavirus cases taking the case count to 88,528

Mumbai's coronavirus tally crossed the 50,000 lakh mark on Monday evening. Total deaths within the Maharashtra capital thanks to COVID-19 have touched 1,702. A health official has apparently confirmed that 1,311 fresh COVID-19 infections were reported from Mumbai.
Maharashtra reported 2,553 fresh coronavirus cases taking the case count to 88,528. The states' fatalities once more shot past the 100-mark with 109 deaths. consistent with the health department, 1,661 patients were discharged today, taking the number of recovered cases to 40,975.
Of the entire 109 COVID-19 deaths, 64 were recorded in Mumbai, Aurangabad reported 8 fatalities, seven people died of the deadly contagious virus in Pune. Six deaths were recorded each in Jalgaon and Solapur, five in Thane, four in Dhule, two in Nashik, and one each in Nanded, Palghar, Jalna, and Ahmednagar.
"Of the 109 deaths being recorded, 32 fatalities had occurred within the last two days while the remainder (77) during May 3 and 5," a politician was quoted from his statement.
The recovery rate for Maharashtra has slightly increased from 45.72 % on June 7 to 46.28 % today, while the death rate stood at 3.57 %, a politician statement said.
Maharashtra COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 88,528, 3,169, discharged, 40,975, active cases 44,374, people tested thus far 5,64,331.
According to the official updates, 66,640 coronavirus cases are reported from Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) which incorporates Mumbai.
There are 3,510 containment zones across the state.

Malegaon in Nashik district has confirmed 838 coronavirus infections and 68 deaths. Pune has reported 8,537 cases and 381 fatalities thus far. Solapur has reported 1,321 infections and 550 deaths. 1,984 COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Aurangabad. Kolhapur has 1,302 COVID-19 cases with 25 deaths. Aurangabad division has reported 2,536 infections and 108 fatalities.

Maharashtra is inching closer to the 90,000-mark for Covid-19 cases because the state’s tally of infections touched 88,528 on Monday.
As lockdown curbs were eased under the state government’s “Mission Begin Again”, the authorities expect a surge in cases, especially in parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, and Aurangabad.
The government has allowed private offices within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to work with 10% of their workforce or 10 employees, whichever is higher.
This relaxation, alongside the resumption of bus services by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), led to more traffic snarls on the roads.
Last week, the government allowed physical activities like jogging and permitted non-essential shops to work on alternate days in red zones, excluding containment areas.
“We are closely monitoring things as we expect a surge in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and districts like Pune and Aurangabad after the relaxations of curbs in three phases over the previous week,” said a senior official was quoted as saying.
Officials, however, said there was no surge in cases even after the lockdown was relaxed.
“There was an increase in cases in districts like Nashik and Aurangabad after the lockdown was lifted within the third week of May, but it had been not a surge. the increase is proportional and therefore the doubling rate of cases in these areas is improving. There was no exponential growth in cases,” another official said on the condition of anonymity.
