According to the latest data, Mumbai with 41,099 cases,Delhi with 20,834 coronavirus patients and Chennai which is rapidly becoming a hotspot with 15,766 COVID positive cases accounts for the 40% of total cases, declared till yesterday 12 AM.Over the last two weeks, the three most affected cities have begun to converge in terms of new cases discovered every day. Chennai's new cases are growing fast, and beginning to show signs of outstripping even Delhi, which has twice as many people.
Till last week of April, Mumbai was leading in the number of fresh cases reported everyday .But last month saw Chennai in the leading spot followed by Delhi.
To check the rate of infections, today Delhi government has said that all asymptomatic passengers coming to Delhi by air, train or bus will need to home quarantine themselves for seven days. Delhi Disaster Management Authority has reduced the mandatory home quarantine period from 14 days to 7 days for asymptomatic travellers.
In the order issued by Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, the city government has said that airport, railways and transport authorities will provide passenger manifest to the office of Principal Secretary- (Revenue) - cum Divisional Commissioner of Delhi on a daily basis. After that, the passenger manifest will be sent to concerned District Magistrates under whose jurisdiction the passenger resides or stays to ensure the 7 day quarantine.
Meanwhile, according to a report in DNA today,Tamil Nadu has crossed the grim milestone of 25,000 total coronavirus cases, the only second state in India to do so after Maharashtra. On Wednesday, the Southern Indian state recorded a new high of 1,286 cases, while the numbers in capital city Chennai also went past the 1000-mark, with 1012 cases. The state currently has 11,345 active cases and has seen 208 deaths, of which a large number have been senior citizens and those with co-morbidities.
The state has been witnessing over 1000 cases daily over the last four days, with over 80% of the cases coming from Chennai alone. A discrepancy in data collection by the private labs has led the Chennai Corporation to issue a new set of instructions to collect personal information of the individuals whose samples are being taken. The civic body has stated that the labs are required to collect full address details including door number, street name, locality, pin code and also the persons Aadhaar number.
Nationally, during the last 24 hours, a total of 4,776 COVID-19 patients have been cured. Thus, so far, a total of 1,00,303 patients have been cured of COVID-19. The recovery rate is 48.31% amongst COVID-19 patients. Presently, there are 1,01,497 active cases and all are under active medical supervision.The fatality rate is 2.80%.
The testing capacity has increased in the country through 480 Government and 208 private laboratories (total 688 laboratories). Cumulatively, 41,03,233 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19, whereas, 1,37,158 samples were tested yesterday.
With respect to the health infrastructure in the country for management of COVID-19, as of now, 952 dedicated COVID hospitals with 1,66,332 Isolation beds, 21,393 ICU beds and 72,762 Oxygen supported beds are available. 2,391 dedicated COVID Health Centres with 1,34,945 Isolation beds; 11,027 ICU beds and 46,875 Oxygen supported beds have been operationalised. The Centre has also provided 125.28 lakh N95 masks and 101.54 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the States/ UTs / Central Institutions.
