Medical content is booming online. Videos on gut health, weight loss, mental wellbeing, hormones, and skincare rack up millions of views. Many of these creators wear scrubs. Some even hold medical degrees. But others? Not quite.
The badge of credibility is now a blue tick, not a board certification. And the line between genuine help and harmful hype is vanishing fast.

People are now:

● Believing anxiety can be “healed” with just journaling

Because it feels good. The content is relatable. Short. Aesthetic. Personal. Influencers speak in
human terms, not medical jargon. They seem honest. Vulnerable. Trustworthy.
Traditional medicine rarely shows that face. That’s where the gap grew—and influencers
stepped in.
No One Is Really Watching
In most countries, health content on social media is not regulated. Not by medical boards. Not
by the platforms. Not even by governments.
Misinformation spreads fast. Often faster than corrections. And apologies, if ever posted, come
too late.
But It’s Not All Bad
Let’s be clear:
● Not every healthfluencer is a harmfluencer.
● Some are qualified professionals trying to educate at scale.
● Others genuinely want to help.
The medium isn’t the problem. The lack of checks is.
